π Note! This functionality requires you to have the buyout functionality enabled.
When an employee leaves the company or if you have devices that are unassigned and not used by a specific employee, there may still be an interest to purchase those unassigned devices. With this functionality, former employees can buy qualified devices without needing access to Velory.
This helps organizations recover asset value while reducing manual administration for HR and IT teams, smooth right!
π§ In this guide:
How Buyout with buyout link works
After an employee's last day of employment, any assigned devices that haven't already been returned are automatically moved to the To return tab in Hardware with the status Not returned.
From there, you can create a secure buyout link for the former employee.
Step 1 β Open the device
Go to Hardware β To return and open the device you'd like to offer for buyout.
The previous assignee is displayed on the device, making it easy to identify who the device belonged to.
Step 2 β Create a buyout link
Open the Lifecycle tab.
At the bottom of the page, you'll find the Buyout link section.
Click Create buyout link.
Once created, copy the link and share it with the former employee using your preferred communication channel.
The buyout link:
- Doesn't require a Velory login
- Is valid for 30 days
- Can only be used for that specific device
- Allows only one active link per device
π‘ A buyout link can be revoked at any time before the purchase has been completed.
Complete the buyout process
The former employee opens the secure link and follows the standard buyout flow to complete the purchase.
Once payment has been successfully completed:
- The device status changes to Active β Bought by employee
- The device moves to Available for release
Before completing the process in Velory, make sure the device has been removed from any connected MDM system if applicable.
Once the device is released in Velory, it is automatically:
- Marked as Bought out by employee
- Archived
Activity and history
The buyout is recorded just like a standard device buyout.
You'll be able to see:
- When the buyout was completed
- Which email address claimed the buyout link
- Which email address received the payment receipt
A new event is also added to the device's event log, providing a complete history of the transaction.
Good to know
- Admins can update the buyout price at any time before the purchase is completed.
- Only one active buyout link can exist per device at a time.
- Buyout links can be revoked until the purchase has been completed.
- Payment receipt is sent to the email address that is provided at the time of payment.
- The 30-day grace period is fixed and cannot be customized.
- The buyout link section is visible only on devices that are unassigned.
