As an admin, you can enable and manage device buyout options in Velory to let employees purchase their assigned devices at the end of their lifecycle. You control the valuation method, timeframe, and visibility of buyout options.
🧠In this guide:
How to enable buyout
- Go to your profile (top right corner).
- Click Settings > End of Lifecycle.
- Toggle Device buyout on or off under the Leasing section.
- Add your residual value in percentage and if any service fee should be added to leasing buyouts.
- When this has been added you are able to customize even more and update the metrics if needed.
💡We don’t define the default residual value or service fee — that’s up to the admin to configure as a starting point. That’s why these fields appear immediately when the setting is enabled. Don’t worry — you can always edit them later if you need to make corrections or adjustments.
How buyout prices are determined

Custom buyout prices
To update the buyout price for an individual device:

The assigned user will see this price as their buyout option.
📌 Note: If the device is leased and was purchased through Velory, the buyout price cannot be updated via CSV. You must update it manually like above on the device detail page.
Tips and troubleshooting
Payment issues when buying out a device |
If a buyout payment fails, it's typically due to an issue with the personal card used during checkout via Stripe. Here's how to resolve it:
➡️ For more help with card payments, see this article. Once the payment goes through successfully, the buyout will be completed, and a payment receipt will be sent to your email. |
Mark a device as released - expired device flow |
When a device is bought out as part of the renewal process, the option to Mark as released becomes available — but only under these conditions:
If all conditions are met, the "Mark as released" button will appear the next morning at 5:00 AM CET on the old (bought-out) device. This button is only visible to admins and service accounts. 📬 Devices ready for release are also included in the weekly email reminder, sent Mondays at 9:00 AM CET. |
Mark a device as released - offboarding flow |
When a buyout is completed during the offboarding process, the Mark as released option becomes available on the employee's last working day, also at 5:00 AM CET. As with the renewal flow, the option is only visible to admins and service accounts, and included in the weekly release-ready email sent on Mondays. |
