As an admin, you can enable and manage device buyout options in Velory to let employees purchase their assigned devices at the end of their lifecycle. You control the valuation method, timeframe, and visibility of buyout options.
🧭 In this guide:
How to enable buyout
- Go to your profile (top right corner).
- Click Settings > End of Lifecycle.
- Toggle Device buyout on or off under the One-off section.
When enabled, more settings will appear for customizing how buyouts should work in your company.
Enable buyout after X months from employment start date
This setting lets you define a minimum period of time that an employee needs to have worked — and had the device assigned — before the buyout option becomes available.
💡 This is particularly useful if you want to avoid short-term employees buying out company assets.
Example:If an employee starts on January 1st and the buyout rule is set to 6 months, but the employee leaves after 3 months, they won’t see the buyout option when offboarded — because the required period hasn't passed.
This setting ensures that only users who’ve had the device long enough (according to your rules) can purchase it when they leave the company.
Buyout timeframe (optional)
By default, the buyout option is visible to employees at all times when a device reaches its renewal stage. But if you’d like to limit the availability — to better align with internal workflows or payroll timing — you can activate a buyout timeframe.
With this setting, you can:
- Choose a start and end day of the month when the buyout option should be visible (e.g., the 10th to the 20th).
- Configure this window easily with a dropdown menu.
- Apply it to all devices in just a few clicks.
🚫 If an employee tries to access the buyout option outside this window, they’ll see a message asking them to return during the next available period.
Buyout summary email (optional)
To help you and your finance team stay updated on buyout activity, you can activate an automatic email summary of successful buyouts from the previous period.
Here’s how it works:
- Add one or more recipients (e.g., Finance, IT, or third-party partners).
- The email is sent at 08:00 CET the day after the “To” date you’ve set in your buyout timeframe.
- It includes an overview of all devices successfully bought out during that period.
🔁 If you’re using the default timeframe (1–31), the summary email will be sent on the 1st of the following month.
📭 No recipients = no email.📭 No buyouts = no email.✅ You can add recipients at any time to start receiving updates.
How Buyout Prices Are Determined
Default Valuation
Buyout value is calculated automatically using depreciation and the device’s company cost in Velory. Default values apply per category (e.g., phones, laptops).
The valuation is based on a standard depreciation model and the cost information available for the device in Velory, specifically the 'Company cost' field.
When you enable automatic valuation for a category, the buyout price of all devices in that category will be calculated and updated automatically.
Customize Valuation
Tailor the valuation model:
- Click "Edit" in the valuation settings
- Adjust depreciation rate, period, and other metrics
- See a visual comparison of default vs. custom valuation
- Save to apply new prices across the category
Set Custom Buyout Prices
You can:
- Update buyout settings directly on a device
- Upload a CSV to adjust prices in bulk
Custom prices remain unchanged unless manually updated — or until you switch to automatic valuation again.
